 You have to understand, I do not have an exceedingly high threshold of pain, especially when it comes to my own body.  Others I can inflict pain on; such as old boyfriends who decide to dally with the short blonde from the corner café, or who have an addiction to watching adult videos over the internet.  But when it comes to me, my body is a temple and should be treated as such.  <b>Waxing</b>, though effective in removing hair, rips it out like a band-aid on steroids.  Plus, it’s messy and smells bad.  I soon decided that was not an activity I would subject myself to on a regular basis.</span><br /> <span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span> <span style="font-size: large;"><b>Hair Removal Products</b></span><br /> <span style="font-size: large;">After I decided that there must be a better option than shaving, the first thing I did was trot right out to my local store to see what products were available.  What did I discover, but a cream that touted to remove hair simply by wiping it on, and wiping it off.  “Ah-ha”, I thought.  Now this is what I was looking for!</span><br /> <span style="font-size: large;">I bought the cream and brought it home (I won’t tell you which one, but it’s widely available, begins with an N, and rhymes with “hair”).  Following the directions, I wiped it on, let it stand for a few minutes, and wiped it off.  Lo and behold, with a little prodding, the hair came off my legs.  </span><br /> <span style="font-size: large;">The story would end here, except for two things – the smell and the dryness.  First, this product smelled bad.  I thought I could get past that; after all, it removed the hair, didn’t it?  But try as I might, the smell was just too great of a cost for the benefit I received.  Plus, it left my legs feeling dry and chaffed.  I decided there must be a better solution.</span><br /> <span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span> <span style="font-size: large;">Epilators</span><br /> <span style="font-size: large;">You might recognize this better if I called it “electronic hair pullers”.  When I was at the store earlier, I had noticed some of these.  When I went back to the store, I decided to try one.  They all promised that I could go weeks between uses.  I have to admit, the devices themselves looked a little intimidating.  Staring at the trimmers made the hair on my legs stand on end.  But I was determined to press on, so I purchased one and took it home.</span><br /> <span style="font-size: large;">Before I go on, you need to understand that I do consider myself an intelligent person.  I have a successful career, get along well with my parents, and can point to several relationships in which my partner was totally at fault for screwing things up.  Nevertheless, the only research I did so far in my quest for the perfect hair remover was looking at products on the store shelves.</span><br /> <span style="font-size: large;">I didn’t use my epilator when I first brought it home.  Instead, I took it out of the package and set it on my bathroom counter.  I thought, “I’ll let it get the feel of the place”, like a newborn puppy exploring its new home.  “Then perhaps it won’t hurt as much as it looks like it will”.</span><br /> <span style="font-size: large;">My kindness was not repaid.  By the time I used my new epilator, I had some three-to-four days growth on my legs.  The stubble was palpable.  And what I learned about my epilator was that it hurt.  I’m proud to say that I used it on both legs.  But in the interest of being honest, by the time I was done I was in tears.  I couldn’t bring myself to repeat the exercise.  That epilator sat in a box in my closet until I donated it to charity at the end of the year as a tax write-off.</span><br /> <span style="font-size: large;">I now know there are far better epilators available than the one I purchased on that day.  However, much as I like the thought of a quick electronic device to remove that hair, I have not been able to bring myself to try another one.  Maybe someday, but not today.</span><br /> <span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span> <span style="font-size: large;">Electrolysis… and a friend</span><br /> <span style="font-size: large;">Discouraged, but not undaunted, I decided to do some research before my next foray into the world of <b>hair removal. </b> I had heard about electrolysis before, but something about it started to intrigue me more and more.  Perhaps it was the claim of “permanent hair removal”; perhaps it was its documented history of success.  I decided to give it a try.</span><br /> <span style="font-size: large;">After researching online, I determined that home electrolysis products – including RF, ultrasound, etc – are dubious at best.  They may be effective, but you need to be careful and know what you’re doing.  Better leave it to the professionals, I thought.</span><br /> <span style="font-size: large;">While I was doing my research, I shared the story of my quest with a friend.  She admitted that she had been looking into laser hair removal.  We both agreed to make our appointments with the professionals me, electrolysis, and she, laser), and compare the results.</span><br /> <span style="font-size: large;">I made the appointment for my electrolysis treatment session.  Now, you have to understand that electrolysis it not cheap.  Fortunately I was in a position where I could try it – but I’m well aware that not everyone could afford the thousands of dollars that professional electrolysis can cost you each year.</span><br /> <span style="font-size: large;">So what did I learn about electrolysis?  First, it’s sloooooow.  I mean painstakingly slow.  A trained specialist inserts a needle into each individual hair follicle while applying an electrical current to it.  The current travels through the needle and kills the hair at its root.  Then they pull the hair out with tweezers. </span><br /> <span style="font-size: large;">Second, it’s painful.  More than I thought it would be.  The bad news about my epilator was that it hurt; the good news was it was over rather quickly.  Electrolysis hurts too; the bad news is that it goes on for hours.  And that’s just for one session.  You need to schedule multiple appointments and come back for more sessions for different parts of your body.  The solution is permanent – but only after repeated visits.  So if you’re serious about electrolysis , you need to be prepared to spend the next 2-3 years minimum undergoing these long, painful, and expensive treatments.  I had higher expectations than that.  I haven’t been back for my second appointment.</span><br /> <span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span> <b><span style="font-size: large;">Laser H</span><span style="font-size: large;">air Removal Products</span></b><br /> <span style="font-size: large;">At around the same time, my friend scheduled her appointment for laser treatment.  There are a variety of laser hair removal treatments – IPL, Ruby Red, IML, to name a few.  They all share a similar approach; a laser beam is applied to the skin which kills the hair.</span><br /> <span style="font-size: large;">She had previously undergone electrolysis treatments, so she had a good deal of apprehension related to how much pain would be involved.  She was much relieved to find the process relatively pain-free.  There is a mild “thumping” on your flesh while the laser is being applied – kind of like a rubber band being snapped on your skin.  And, the process was far quicker than electrolysis – it only took a few minutes versus hours with the electrified needle.</span><br /> <span style="font-size: large;">Drawbacks?  Cost for one.  The laser treatments she signed up for cost hundreds of dollars each – well over a thousand in all.  Through my research I also discovered that the government recently issued a ruling that laser hair removal is not permanent – so the treatments (and cost) need to be continued indefinitely.  For my friend, the benefit of quick and relatively pain-free removal was worth the cost.  In fact, she continues her laser treatments to this day, and is quite satisfied.  For myself, I decided to continue looking for a solution that would give me similar results but cost far less.</span><br /> <span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span> <span style="font-size: large;">Back to the drawing board</span><br /> <span style="font-size: large;">By this time I was feeling very educated about <b>Laser hair removal Products.</b>  But where did that leave me?  It seemed I had run out of options.  Like any good researcher, I went back over my notes to see if I had missed something.  In fact, I closely examined my first option – the hair removal cream.  I reflected upon what I liked about it – simple to apply, simple to wipe off.  And what I didn’t like about it – primarily the odor.  So then I decided to do some research - on the internet, not just on the store shelves.  Something I had failed to do the first time around.</span><br /> <span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span> <span style="font-size: large;">Problem Solved!</span><br /> <span style="font-size: large;">After doing some research I purchased a different <b>Laser hair removal </b>cream.  And what did I discover? The cause for this seems to be connected directly to the reengineering of our once natural food supply. It appears that certain essential nutrients have been removed from our foods for the sole purpose of extending its shelf life. But the problem grew even more intensive and dangerous. If we look to the same 100 year period, as we see the diabetes epidemic increase, we must also take note to what occurred within the food industry. As we do this, we have to notice the many coincidences that exist between the almost complete corruption of our food supply and our massive disease epidemic.</span><br /> <span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span> <span style="font-size: large;">As one looks back on the efforts being made to substitute artificial food as the real thing, we will find that it goes back to the time of Napoleon. It has always been the enormous profits as being the motivation factor that is possible with artificial food. It was a Frenchman named Hippolyte Mege-Mouries that invented what is now known as Margarine. He did this in order to win a contest that was sponsored by Napoleon III for the invention of a palatable table fat. We patented his invention in England in 1869. Based on today's standards, this Margarine was barely edible. It wasn't until 1874 when Margarine was first introduced to us in America. It wasn't too palatable, for it consisted of such things as Hog Fat, Gelatin, Fat, Bleach, Mashed Potatoes, Gypsum and Casein.</span><br /> <span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span> <span style="font-size: large;">It was in 1899 when David Wesson established a vacuum and high temperature process for deodorizing cottonseed oil. It was the next year when he marketed "Wesson" oil. It took him over ten years to fully develop his hydrogenation process. Then in 1903, William Norman patented the hydrogenation process. This process was used to prevent unsaturated fatty acids from becoming rancid, by turning them into saturated fats.</span><br /> <span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span> <span style="font-size: large;">It was then around 1911 that the artificial fat business actually began to take off. These artificial fats did not spoil and turn rancid as un-refrigerated natural products do. It was also this same year that Crisco came upon the food scene. Formerly prior to WWII, there had been restrictive laws against Margarine which were repealed, and then Margarine became the dietary staple, as was motherhood and apple pie. And soon after this, it was followed by Crisco and artificial lard. It was also during this same period that refined oils made great inroads into the market place and became attractive to the consumer. It was these refined oils that actually made the manufacturer look great to the housewives of that time. It seems that no one ever noticed that even the insects would not eat of these oils, when any was spilled.</span><br /> <span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span> <span style="font-size: large;">But by this time, it was very evident that these artificial oils and other product were here to stay. No one ever seemed to take note, or gave any thought to the long term consequences on the health of the nation that came with these cheap artificial foods. The whole period that started in the 1930s up until the present, was increasingly proliferated by a market driven science, one that was out to change consumer food habits. The complete idea was to wean the consumers away from the animal fat and cold pressed vegetable fat and seeds that had worked and was healthy for generations, and entice them to the new refined oils. Saturated fat was declared to be bad by salespeople posing as scientists, and as well, by the real scientists that were prostituting their trade.</span><br /> <span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span> <span style="font-size: large;">The American Eskimo, whose diet formally consisted of about 60% animal fat, remained healthy without any signs of diabetes for several generations. But, after they became wealthy from their pipeline revenue, they adopted the typical American diet of artificial foods. Then within one generation, they had degenerated health wise, to the same health status that was then considered normal in America.</span><br /> <iframe allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/B9zhdJ9QTRc" width="560"></iframe> <span style="font-size: large;">As scientific studies increased, several misleading studies came out regarding artificial fats, and the oil companies asserted the value of "polyunsaturated" or "monounsaturated" oils to ones health. There is no law that says they must tell you the truth, that these are really "transfats"; so they will not tell you, that a "polyunsaturated transfat" and a "monounsaturated" transfat, are poisonous. A polyunsaturated Cis, or natural fat, is a desirable and necessary part of a healthy diet. So now you know!</span><br /> <span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span> <span style="font-size: large;">So, due to all of this, it becomes more evident that the health trend will continue to worsen, and more and more people will continue on the path of becoming Type II diabetics. A few months later, the results of a study conducted at the University of California showed an antioxidant activity three times higher than those of red wine and green tea.</span><br /> <span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span> <span style="font-size: large;">Then, another study in Israel showed that pomegranate juice reduced the development of atherosclerosis in mice that already had advanced atherosclerosis. The next month , results of another study showed a 36% decrease in serum ACE activity and a 5% reduction in systolic blood pressure in patients who drank pomegranate juice. The study concluded that pomegranate juice can offer a wide protection against cardiovascular diseases which could be related to its inhibitory effect on oxidative stress and on serum ACE activity. </span><br /> <span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span> <span style="font-size: large;">In the past 5 years, 150+ more studies and publications involving the pomegranate have been indexed at U.S. National Library of Medicine's PubMed database, with findings that suggest many healthy benefits of this fruit. The study showed that administration of pomegranate juice significantly reduced the progression of atherosclerosis, and that the proatherogenic effects induced by perturbed shear stress can be reversed by chronic administration of pomegranate juice. Implications of this is that chronic administration of pomegranate juice may be effective in both prevention and treatment of atherosclerosis. </span><br /> <span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span> <span style="font-size: large;">The results of another 3-year study suggest that pomegranate juice decreases carotid intima-media thickness and systolic blood pressure in patients with carotid artery stenosis. </span><br /> <span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span> <span style="font-size: large;">In the most recent article about pomegranates, posted at PubMed on January 17, 2007, the authors stated, "The last 7 years have seen over seven times as many publications indexed by Medline dealing with pomegranate and Punica granatum than in all the years preceding them." They noted that the seed, juice, peel, leaf, flower, bark and roots each have pharmacologic activity. They concluded that "the phytochemistry and pharmacological actions of all Punica granatum components suggest a wide range of clinical applications for the treatment and prevention of cancer, as well as other diseases where chronic inflammation is believed to play an essential etiologic role." </span><br /> <span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span> <span style="font-size: large;">Passion Flower has also shows promise of lowering <b>high blood pressure</b> by regulating nervous system neurotransmitters that reduce anxiety. (Passiflora incarnata) is accepted for medicinal use in Germany, France, and other European countries for the treatment of nervous anxiety, and was at one time approved as a sedative and sleep aid over-the-counter drug in the U.S. After a review of night-time sleep aids by the FDA in 1978, it was no longer recognized as effective by the FDA since no American company submitted data on safety and efficacy as required by the FDA, so it was dropped as an over-the-counter drug.</span><br /> <span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span> <span style="font-size: large;">Although passion flower is a native American plant, it has been more widely researched and used in Europe than in the United States. Pick a day where you normally do not go out, or just do housework and run errands. Do not wash with shampoo and do not heat style.  If you just feel too grubby and must do something, after brushing your hair thoroughly to distribute the sebum, simply wet your hair, apply a little daily conditioner to the ends, rinse well, and then pull back into a “wet look” ponytail or bun.  Give your hair a break from shampooing once a week, and whenever possible, from blow-drying and heat styling. </span><br /> <br /> <h3> <span style="font-size: large;"><b>Homemade Beauty Tips For Hair Growth</b></span></h3> <span style="font-size: large;">                                         Conditioning Treatments:  Unless you have very fine, limp hair, get into the habit of applying a deep conditioning treatment to your hair once a week. Deep conditioners are not the same as daily conditioners, and homemade preparations work really well. Coconut oil is especially good for hair conditioning.  Brush your hair, wash it lightly, and then towel dry. Apply your deep conditioner and then wrap your head in a heated towel to open the hair cuticle and allow the conditioner to soak in.  Leave for 10 minutes to half and hour.  Then rinse thoroughly in warm water to remove the conditioner residue that remains, then cool water to close the hair cuticle.  Rinsing your hair in cool water can be a little uncomfortable, but it can do amazing things for the appearance of your hair. It closes the hair cuticle close to the shaft, which increases shine and manageability, and helps to keep hair strong.  A mixture of cool water and lemon juice is even better for shine and strength (a half of a teaspoon of lemon juice in two quarts of cool water is sufficient). </span><br /> <span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span> <br /> <span style="font-size: large;">Daily Conditioner:  Get into the habit of applying a daily conditioner to hair ends every time you shampoo.  This will reduce slit ends, discoloration when coloring, damage when heat styling and reduce the need for frequent trims.  Use a product designed for thermal styling if you frequently blow-dry, use a curling iron or hot rollers. </span><br /> <span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span> <span style="font-size: large;">Haircuts:  Get into the habit of getting your hair trimmed when it needs to be.  Again, this reduces split ends and keeps excess weight off your hair (which can cause breakage).  About once every 8 weeks is right for shoulder length or longer hair, once every 6 weeks for shorter styles.</span><br /> <span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span> <span style="font-size: large;">Up-Dos:  Yep, that’s right – if you have long hair and want to keep it that way - put your hair up when possible.  I’m not suggesting you look like an librarian every day, but one of the reasons that women grew such long beautiful hair back in the “old days” is because they wore it up all the time.  The weight of your hair can stimulate the start of the telogen phase.  When hair is weighed down and very long, it stops growing and falls out, or simply breaks off.  Putting your hair up frequently will keep that weight off the root of the hair.  You can pin it up gently with bobby pins or a banana clip when running errands, doing housework, cooking dinner, doing yard work, messing around on your computer, watching TV, etc.  Now, this depends on your hair style and hair length.  If you have a short hairstyle, this step is not only unnecessary – it’s impossible.  However, if you have shoulder length or longer hair, and want it to be as thick and healthy looking as possible, make it a point to put it up and keep the weight off your scalp.  The other upside is that it will help keep the hair out of dinner.</span><br /> <span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span> <span style="font-size: large;">How to Wash Your Hair </span><br /> <span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span> <span style="font-size: large;">Believe it or not, there is a right way to wash your hair. Treat it like the finest silk!  If you’ve ever made the mistake of running a pair of expensive silk hose through your washing machine, you’ll know what I mean.</span><br /> <span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span> <span style="font-size: large;">Here a few tips for avoid causing any excess damage to your hair while washing it:</span><br /> <span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span> <span style="font-size: large;">1. Let your hair hang naturally when you wash it; either standing in the shower or with your head leaning over the bath, or in a shampoo sink.  NEVER – NEVER – NEVER – pile it up on your head to wash. </span><br /> <span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span> <span style="font-size: large;">2. Wet your hair with warm water (not hot) to prepare it for shampooing.  Keep the pressure on the showerhead gentle enough to avoid excess water pressure on your hair.</span><br /> <span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span> <span style="font-size: large;">3. Pour shampoo into the palm of your hand. </span><br /> <span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span> <span style="font-size: large;">4. Work the shampoo into a lather in your hand, and apply to your scalp.  Work the shampoo into your scalp all over your head by massaging with your fingertips (not your fingernails).  Move fingers from one area of your head to the other by lifting the fingers and then placing them elsewhere on your head.  Do NOT drag them through your hair.  Remember, hair is the most vulnerable to damage and breakage when it is wet.  If your hair is particularly dirty or oily, you can work the shampoo through to the ends.  If your hair is very dry or processed, you may just want to wash your scalp, and let the shampoo pick up any dirt or oil on the ends as it’s rinsed out. </span><br /> <span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span> <span style="font-size: large;">5. Rinse hair thoroughly with lukewarm water.  Ensure that you allow it to hang naturally.  You may spread it out gently with your fingertips if it’s long and needs extra help getting out the shampoo.</span><br /> <span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span> <span style="font-size: large;">6. If you chose to use a rinse-out conditioner, this is the time.  Unlike shampooing, apply conditioners to the ends of your hair, and if your hair is generally dry, apply the remainder on your hands gently to the roots.  Repeat the rinse.</span><br /> <span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span> <span style="font-size: large;">7. Towel dry gently.  The new hair towel wraps are excellent, keep hair in place and aren’t heavy like a towel wrap so there’s less risk of breakage to your hair.</span><br /> <span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span> <span style="font-size: large;">8. Once hair is towel-dried you can apply a leave-in conditioner.  </span><br /> <span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span> <span style="font-size: large;">9. ALWAYS comb wet hair with a wide-tooth comb– NEVER brush wet hair.</span><br /> <span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span> <span style="font-size: large;">10. NEVER, NEVER, NEVER sleep on wet hair – it is vulnerable when wet, and can break easily as you turn on your pillow.  Even if it doesn’t break, it roughs up the cuticle and makes it look dull.</span><br /> <span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span> <span style="font-size: large;">11.
